UK and Ireland celebrate World Book Day!

It's World Book Day in the UK and Ireland, with schools and families taking part in events that encourage young people to spend more time reading books for pleasure. For some it includes dressing up as their favourite literary character, while others are competing in writing competitions or fundraising to support initiatives that make books more accessible.

If you're outside the UK and Ireland, you may be more familiar with UNESCO's World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April, which began in 1995 and promotes the broader industry that brings you books, including libraries, publishers and booksellers. The UK event was created two years later in 1997, and World Book Day founder Baroness Gail Rebuck recalls: “We wanted to do something to reposition reading and our message is the same today as it was then – that reading is fun, relevant, accessible, exciting, and has the power to transform lives.”

As an IB student, you may not agree that your science textbook is fun or exciting, but doing your best at school could just help you achieve the university place or start to your career that shapes, if not transforms, the next stage of your life.

Reading is central to the IB learner profile, feeding your inquiring mind and expanding your critical thinking ability. So, while our authors cannot promise to make you ecstatic about economics or mad for maths, they can hopefully try to demistify concepts and build confidence in your DP subjects. Take advantage of our flash sale that will give you 10% off all our IB study and revision guides from World Book Day until 14 March.

And remember, picking up a book that isn‘t for school is a great way to take a break from study. Whether you have exams approaching or are just wanting to stay on track, making a study plan (and sticking to it) is perfect for balancing focused school work with reading for pleasure and relaxation.

Happy World Book Day!
